Olena Sokolovska
"I love exploring different painting techniques – glazing and opaque painting – to play with light, shadow and the transitions between the real and the unreal. For me, painting is freedom, play and the joy of creation."
Olena Sokolovska was born in 1969 in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. She began her art education in 1984 at the Ivan Trush State College of Decorative and Applied Arts in Lviv, where she studied fresco and mosaic. She went on to study at the Academy of Fine and Applied Arts and completed a specialist programme in art education at Stefanyk University. She taught anatomy, composition and drawing, and mentored young artists. Since 2005 she has lived in Zagreb, where she runs a studio and drawing and painting courses for children and adults. She led the first online art workshop in Croatia, and her students learn and refine watercolour and oil techniques. She is a member of HDLU, the Croatian Association of Artists.
